Movie Review: Vantage Point

April 3rd, 2008

Well, we have started the cinema trips again, and this week we saw Vantage Point, starring Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox, Forrest Whitaker and Sigourney Weaver. I had not really heard much about this movie and the cinema was pretty low of viewers.

I was not disappointed - what a fantastic movie! Unlike anything I had seen before! You did need to keep a close eye on what was happening, just in case you were able to work out who were the villains when watching the scenes from each persons vantage point - well, I failed completely. An extremely good car chase, lots of action, and for a change a movie with a plausible storyline. Forest Whitaker is excellent and so is Matthew Fox, Signorney is not a major character in the movie but is okay, Dennis Quiad looked a bit lost though and his acting skills did seam a little fragile. His expressions seamed forced, but this could have well been the directors fault - he just didn’t seam at ease with the part he was playing.

Highly recommended, but doubt if I would put in my collection as once seen the impact would just not be the same.

The Simpsons Movie

October 1st, 2007

Okay, but yes it was just like a double length episode, but worth watching. Yet again, most of the funny bits had already been seen in the trailer such as the Spider-pig moment which is still amusing. Kids loved this, they were all laughing their little socks off, so if you need to keep the kids quite and they haven’t seen this movie go buy it on DVD.

Reign of the Gargoyles

October 1st, 2007

A movies made for TV set during the second world war. When some Nazi’s decide to awaken some nasty stone gargoyles back to life it all goes wrong, they kill their rescuers and loads more Nazi’s (always a good thing), then set about on the local village too. The Ameicans get involved, meet up with the British who are already there, then theres a USA feel good moment whereby the British surrender command to a ‘young’ American flyboy… gawd, pass the bucket. gawd it’s not good… No doubt not made for TV but a straight to video production. Worth a watch but only once.

Superbad

October 1st, 2007

Was really looking forward to this movie as it looked extremely amusing from the trailers that had been shown over the past few weeks. Well, ummmm, it wasn’t super and I think ‘bad’ is an understatement. The cinema mused themselves occasionally but there was no real outburst of laughter, and when people were leaving there certainly wasn’t any buzz.

Most of the ‘funny’ bits were as seen in the trailers, nothing new. One film that may be worth watching if there is nothing else on, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it. Wait until it comes on Channle 4, ‘cos they are the only channel likely to show this movie.

A very big disapointment.

The Core

September 27th, 2007

Personal review by Karl: well, a little behind with this one, and was watched on Sky the other day. I was a little reluctant to watch this movie as nobody I knew gave it any credence, but what was on was on and there wasn’t anything else that interested me. I needed an action movie to watch that didn’t require too much thought.

I wasn’t disappointed - it wasn’t the best movie in the world but it was a good blast, a no-brainer sci-fi action flick. Story line was reasonable, effects were very good and overall quite enjoyed it. Now, would I watch it again… maybe…

Crank

September 23rd, 2007

Starring the fabulous Jason Statham (Lock Stock and Transporter), this film is a fanatstic ride of action. One hour to die and he wants to get revenge on his poisoner. If the watch the very final scene very closely it has also been left open for the sequal, watch the eyes… weither there will be one though is uncertain. No brainer action flick, with a acceptable story line.

Funny Customers

September 22nd, 2007

A very stange thing happened today…

A customer rang us up complain, yes we do make the occasional mistake. We had sent him the wrong T-shirt, ‘hands up’ yes we had. Unfortunately we didn’t have the one this customer required so we offered to exchange it for another, free of charge and to keep the original one as shipped. He wasn’t happy, he wanted the one he ordered, but this had now been discontinued by the manufacturer. We apologised (again) and said to keep the T-shirt as recieved (i.e. he didn’t need to return it, just making that clear as he obviously didn’t understand what we had said) and that we would give him a full refund back, he just needed to email us the details of the order to confirm and we would action the refund on Monday when accounts were in work (as they don’t work at weekend).

Problem sorted we thought - customer gets to keep the T-shirt (albiet the wrong one) and he would get a full refund. He therefore gets a free T-shirt. Now, is that clear enough?? Free T-shirt and money back.

Still not happy. He wants the one he ordered, and does not want the one he received. Explain again. No luck there.

Ok, we said we would refund the T-shirt as received (yes we know it’s the wrong one, and yes we made a mistake, and we apologise etc etc). Also explained (this had been done earlier too) that the wrong T-shirt had been picked (a few available under the one ordered), by one of the lads, yes a mistake… Sorry. We don’t have any left of one ordered, as it had been discontinued i.e. none were available (how many times did we state this).

He still wasn’t happy! He wanted the one ordered. We don’t have it. We will give you a full refund, and please either keep the original T-shirt or put it in the bin.

Still he’s not happy! He wants the T-shirt that he ordered. How many times?

Now saying he is going to trading standards, We said please ask them to speak to Karl (The Janitor) who will be more than happy to help, and before we could find the telephone number he swore and told us to stick the T-shirt where the sun doesn’t shine!

A bit difficult, as he has it.

We did out utmost to apologise, and sort the situation out. What are we supposed to do?

If anybody can enlighten us please do contact us. We pride ourselves on our level of customer service, we did our very best to sort this out, but is difficult when dealing with the mentally challenged.
